With our kayaks loaded onboard the Misty Isles, mothership trips are an excellent way to cover a lot of ground in comfort, yet still have time to get the intimate look that is only possible from a kayak at this picturesque area. Our mothership trips are custom planned for you to suit your schedule and interests. This trip has it all! Kayaking, sailing, hiking and camping in one of the most spectacular wilderness areas on the whole B.C. coast. With our kayaks loaded onboard the motor sailor Misty Isles, we set off to explore Desolation Sound, widely renowned for it's rugged beauty and warm water temperatures.

In Toba Inlet we will see waterfalls, their source high in the snow capped mountain tops of the Coast Range that tower over us, cascade hundreds of feet down to the turquoise glacial inlet waters.

Leaving Toba Inlet, Misty Isles will take us through one of the narrow channels which cut through the Discovery Islands. Because these channels are so constricted, the tidal flow is squeezed through them to form the famous tidal rapids. Often seals, eagles, sea lions or porpoise can be seen fishing right in between the whirlpools and boils at times of fast tidal flow.

Each day there will be opportunity to learn many new things including sea kayaking ranging from basic beginner's paddle strokes to rescues and braces and then rolling, chart work, navigation, sailing and the natural history and human history of the area. Just let us know where your interests lie! Evenings can be spent either sleeping onboard Misty Isles in her two double bunks, camping onshore on secluded islands or staying in cabins/ lodges available in the area.

Our meals feature mostly vegetarian, local and organic fare wherever possible. We produce our own free-range eggs as well as seasonal garden produce. Dinners will often feature BBQ wild salmon line caught by local commercial fishermen or free-range chicken. We can include red-meat on the menu if requested but organic meats are not so easily obtainable on Cortes.

LIABILITY WAIVER: All participants in sailing trips, guided kayaking trips or kayak rentals will be required to sign a waiver of liability. Those participants under 19 years of age will require a signature from a parent or guardian.
